It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

Yesterday was the last day of classes! Last night we had our performance for theater class, which went very well. The 12 of us in the class performed three short scenes - one in Venetian dialect, one in the style of Commedia dell'Arte, and one contemporary poetry piece that we turned into a theater piece. It certainly exceeded my expectations, and I was very proud of us, since it didn't really come together until our rehearsal yesterday afternoon! It was also very exhilarating to be on stage speaking Italian, and when it was over, I was sad that there wouldn't be more opportunities to do theater in Italian.

Now I'm almost done, except for my Semiotics of Art exam, worth two Vassar credits, is next Friday, so until then I'll be studying and memorizing and reciting - it's an oral exam. And also enjoying the Christmas lights all around Bologna...here's a sample of my favorites!

Bologna's Fifth Ave, as we like to refer to it

Arches of a portico accentuated by garlands

See one of the two towers lit up at the end of the street?

A fancy chocolate shop near our dorm whose Christmas display changes almost every week

A shopping street leading to Piazza Maggiore which didn't have a portico before, but now has one made of garlands and lights

One of the two towers
L'albero di Natale - the Christmas Tree!

Gabriellissima!! I'm so glad your performance went well, that is so exciting!!! I wish I could have been there, especially for the Commedia dell'Arte part (hehe looks like that class senior year WAS good for something! Oooh snap, I kid I kid.) Good luck with your Semiotics exam - and thank you so much for posting pictures of the Christmas decorations near you...they are sooo beautiful! It makes me sigh just looking at them, I can't imagine walking past them on a regular basis <3 I looove you and miiisss you (I HAVE SKYPE NOW. How does it work?) We'll figure it out :)

Gabrielle, your photographs are putting me in a holiday mood. And I love the Christmas song (I've actually heard it before). Thanks I needed that. I'm glad you had a good performance. Please keep posting Christmas pictures! They are so beautiful.
Love,
Rose Angela

Those portico pictures are great. I love those lights. I can't believe I'm going to see them in person soon!!!!! Non vedo l'ora di vederti. Spero di potere parlare Itlaiano abbastanza bene. Avrò bisogno di parlare bene perchè voglio fare spese in Italiano!!! Te voglio bene.
