The street in Bologna near the apartment we rented for the holidays
I write this last blog entry, at least of these travels, sitting at home in New York. Our last day in Bologna was rather foggy, but it made for some interesting pictures.
We left Bologna early yesterday morning, had a long layover in Frankfurt where we ate frankfurters and did some duty-free shopping, then got on the plane to New York where we didn't sleep much, but drank wine and Bailey's, which made up for the arduousness of a long flight. The final hump of our journey home was losing my purse at the airport, with my passport, IDs, iPod, and camera in it (just what we needed in our jet-lagged state, I know.) I tried to grab a bag off the baggage carousel and couldn't get it (I started going around on the carousel for a few seconds, so I jumped off), and my purse fell off my shoulder onto the carousel, unnoticed. I didn't realize it was missing until we had gotten to my aunt and uncle's house, in whose driveway our car was parked while we were gone. Luckily, they live close to the airport, and even more luckily, the employees in the Lufthansa Baggage Tracking Office had found the purse and were looking through it on the desk just as we walked in, so it was a very fortuitous and appreciated reunion.
Now I'm back home for two weeks before going back to school for spring semester, and while there are many things about Italy I'll miss (the food, the language, the architecture - I could go on), I'm so happy to be back in New York and see and do everything that I've missed so much.
