Bonjour from Paris!

Bonjour from Paris! I'm writing this using the free wifi from the Apple Store by the entrance to the Louvre. I got here yesterday morning bright and early and I'm still a little jet-lagged but not that bad. I had my morning croissant and cafe au lait so I should be good for a few hours!

Yesterday I didn't do too much, mostly walked around and tried to stay awake and absorb Paris. I sat in front of Notre Dame reading and people-watching for a bit, and then met up with my friend Maria Laura and walked around the Marais. We got delicious mussels for dinner and then met up with two of her Vassar friends who are also studying in Paris. We went out for drinks at a place that had a happy hour until 10pm (by that time I was fighting to keep my eyes open...pretty lame in a Paris bar!) and then went back to Maria Laura's apartment.

This morning I went to the Jardins du Tuileries for a bit and sat in the sun (to try to adjust my internal clock to Paris time) and then went to the Musee de l'Orangerie, where there are two large oval rooms with large canvases of Monet's waterlilies, and more impressionist art in galleries downstairs.

After that Maria Laura and I walked along the Champs Elysees and across the Pont Alexandre, then got lunch. She had to head back to the Louvre for some meetings (she's doing a museum studies graduate program there) so I went with her and toured the galleries for a while. I saw most of the highlights but there's still more I want to see, so I took a little break to check my email and write this post, and then I'll head back in for part deux.

The weather in Paris is beautiful, a little crisper than NYC and some of the trees have started to turn already. It's perfect traveling weather though!

More next time I find free wifi...a bientot!

Sounds magnifique. I wonder if there's a place that ships croissants internationally...
