We started out our 10-day tour of Israel in the north, in the area known as the Golan Heights. The terrain of the north is not really what you picture when you think of Israel - or at least not what I pictured. It's hilly, a bit rocky, and for the most part, green. No deserts up here. But a snow covered mountain? Check!
This mountain was actually at the northern border of Israel. On our first two days we saw the borders of both Lebanon and Syria, not very far away.
We went on two beautiful hikes in the north and saw a waterfall, very a-typical in Israel. We went to Tzafat (the birthplace of Kabbalah, Jewish mysticism) and toured two very old synagogues, as well as a candle-making shop. We even went on a tour of the Golan Heights Winery, Israel's biggest wine exporter! Here are a few more photos from our first days in Israel, before we headed south.
